Westlake High Science Fair Students All Go Home Winners

THORNWOOD, N.Y. All three of the first-year science research students at Thornwood's Westlake High School went home with major prizes after the school's recent annual regional science fair, according to a press release. Students came from 24 schools in the Hudson Valley region, and more than 250 judges volunteered their time to analyze each student's research projects.

License 2 Grill Among Winners At Westchester Magazine's Burger Contest

Erica Gendler earned her license to grill as one of the winners for best burgers at Westchester Magazine's Fourth Annual Burger and Beer Blast. Gendler, owner of License 2 Grill, 802 Commerce St. in Thornwood, took home third-prize for best burger at the competition held June 4 at the Kensico Dam Plaza, 1 Bronx River Parkway, Valhalla, N.Y. It was Coals Grilled Pizza in Bronxville and Port Chester who fended off 27 other Westchester restaurants and four local food trucks to claim the top burger honor with an all-beef burger topped with tequila-cured bacon, cheddar, and a spicy cilantro sauce.

Scarsdale Sophomores Excel At Westlake Science Symposium

Twenty science research sophomores from Scarsdale High School took part Saturday in the fourth annual Westlake Invitational -- A Sophomore Science Symposium at Westlake High School in Thornwood. Four senior students -- David Frank, Elin Johansson, Zara Mian and Sam Koslowsky -- gave up a busy prom weekend to help out.

Wagner's Anthony Godino named to freshman All-America team

Wagner College freshman designated hitter Anthony Godino was named to the NCAA Division I Louisville Slugger freshman All-American team, the Collegiate Baseball newspaper announced. Godino, of Thornwood, N.Y., became the second Seahawk in three years to be selected to the team, following junior right-hander Paul Mammino, who was tabbed in 2013.

Students Set To Compete In Thornwood's Westlake High School Science Fair

THORNWOOD, N.Y. The fourth annual Westlake High School science fair will be Saturday in Thornwood and is expected to draw nearly 400 students from 25 schools in the Hudson Valley area. The science fair is geared for sophomores, and participation from area students has doubled the past three years, said fair organizers Lawrence McIntyre and Raymond Szczerba in a press release.
