Some subscribers to The Fresno Bee have been targeted by a subscription-renewal scam, operated by a company with addresses in Oregon and New York. At least three Bee subscribers have received letters urging them to send renewal checks to a company called Publishers Billing Association at a post office box in White City, Ore., or pay by credit card at a website operated by a company in Thornwood, N.Y. Similar scams have surfaced recently at several other publications, including The Sacramento Bee, said Dan Schaub, director of audience development for parent company The McClatchy Co.
