Firefighters from the Hawthorne and Thornwood fire departments helped kindergarten, first- and second-grade students recognize National Fire Prevention Week on Oct. 6. The firefighters showed students what they looked and sounded like in full gear, explained safety tips such as stop, drop, and roll, checking a door before opening it, and reminding parents to check smoke detectors. Firefighters also allowed students to look at the tools and to walk through the trucks.
